what is the middle contact pin in cell phone batteries for?
cell phone batteries and their slots in the phone have 3 golden metal contacts—-i’m guessing 2 are for + and – ….wondering what the middle one is for?
The middle contact in most cell phone batteries is actually a data pin. Lithium Ion batteries tend to be smart batteries, meaning that they can report various status settings to the phone through that middle pin.
Things like temperature, current charge, and what the state of health of the battery is (how much of it’s original capacity is still there) are what is usually transmitted over that pin.
