I have a brand new deep cell marine battery,what is the rate of discharge/shelf life without float charging?
It seems like the float charge is producing gasses that really stink and It is brand new.I’m wondering if it is ok to just to keep testing the battery or go a certain amount of time then hook the charger back maintain it that way.My thinking is that it is getting overcharged because it is so new.
Size 29 Eveready Deep Cell Marine Battery brand new never used. I have a CTek 8 step charger.
Is your battery a “Everready” or an “Everlast” marine battery from Walmart. A group @9 battery (Deep Cycle looses about 1.5% of its charge per month, just sitting, but if you sit it on a concrete floor is discharges faster. A Small “automatic” “maintainer” will keep it fully charged, with a maximum charge rate of about 2 amps.
I looked for the specifications for your “Everready” battery and found no results.
Your charger should work well, and deep cycle batteries are made for rapid recharge and “deeper” faster discharge during use. I’m not at all sure you have any problem, just normal battery stuff that you might not have noticed before.
Often when it comes to batteries, I say that I once thought I knew a lot about them, but in recent years With newer smart chargers, equalizer circuits, gel filled batteries, etc, I now feel less sure that i even understand the basic stuff.
